Berlin is talking about us: Press coverage ahead of the consecration
Tagesspiegel and Berliner Sonntagsblatt both ran major features on 20 May — two weeks before the Maha Kumbhabhishekam.
Berlin is taking notice. Just weeks before the Maha Kumbhabhishekam, two editorial desks published portraits of the Sri Ganesha Hindu Temple on 20 May 2026.
Under the headline „Nach 20 Jahren Planung und Bau" (After 20 years of planning and building), Der Tagesspiegel tells the full story — from the first conversation in the Neukölln town hall in 2005 to the Ganges water that will be poured by crane onto the spire of the vimana on 7 June. Project director Vilwanathan Krishnamurthy: „It was a great dream. Now we have finally achieved it, also with help of the gods."
In the Berliner Sonntagsblatt, Sophie Neumann traces how the roughly €1.1 million construction cost came together entirely through donations and volunteer labour — and why, after consecration, the temple will rank among Europe's largest Hindu temples.
Berlin.de, the city's official portal, has also listed the inauguration festival as a 2026 highlight in its events calendar. If you'd like to be there: the evening cultural programme from 3 to 7 June (18:00–20:00) is open to all without registration.
